Scrapbooking - a labor of love.

Scrapbooking can take on many forms. People have been saving news clippings, magazine articles, photos, school project output, etc. for years.

There are several challenges to preserving the scrapbook and treasures inside. Newsprint, photo paper, etc. contain natural acids that break the paper down with time. We’ve all seen old newspapers, personal documents, etc. that have been kept in a box for a number of years; it’s all brownish, brittle - nothing to brag about.

Another major problem is making copies for the family and friends.

This was a very complex project, but creating a digital scrapbook can be a very simple process. We do them all the time from a group of photos, and the result is a DVD video of the photos set to music and a CD scrapbook for your computer that allows you to enjoy the images much as we used to do with photo albums.

Several years ago a client came to us with a massive undertaking. She had two large scrapbooks containing news clippings from her father’s 30+ year career as an attorney and judge. She wanted to preserve this somehow and make several copies for family member’s Christmas presents that year..

We set up a photography studio to take high-resolution (12 MP at the time) digital images of the scrapbook pages. These pages were then edited to clean up the images as much as was practical, and then we laid out a scrapbook design. The final steps were printing the pages on a nice parchment paper and then having the books bound in leather.

We have included before and after shots to the left. As you can see, this turned out beautifully. We were able to deliver six leather-bound copies of the first 500-page volume for Christmas delivery (shown below), and the second 500-page volume came a couple of months later.
